Entrance Notes

(1) The main entrance to the Museum of Anthropology is located on the north side of North West Marine Drive. The entrance is reached by taking the stairs from the parking lot or taking the path to the west. The entrance is level and accessible and has a power door. This is the only entrance to the Museum that is open to the public.

Routing Notes

Persons using wheelchairs should use the path to the left of the main staircase to access the main entrance. This path also leads to the rear of the building and the Haida House and Totem Poles.

Accessibility Notes

None. This building is fully accessible.

Caution Notes

Use caution on the gravel path to the west of the building. The path is very uneven in places and persons in wheelchairs may not wish to use it.

THE ROSE GARDEN PARKADE IS LOCATED AT 6278 NORTH WEST MARINE DRIVE. THE ENTRANCE TO THE PARKADE IS LOCATED ON THE SOUTH SIDE OF MARINE DRIVE UNDERNEATH THE ROSE GARDEN AND ACROSS FROM THE ANTHROPOLOGY AND SOCIOLOGY BUILDING.

History / Points of Interest

Year Erected: 1975

The Museum of Anthropology opened in 1976. The building's architect was Arthur Erickson who designed the structure to reflect the traditional buildings of North West Coast First Nations peoples. In 1990 an addition was made to the building to contain the Koerner gallery.
