Entrance Notes

(1) The main entrance to the Koerner and Sedgewick Libraries is located on the west side of Main Mall. This entrance is level and accessible and has a power door. The main entrance leads to the Koerner library and the Sedgewick Library can be accessed by using the elevator or the stairs to travel to the lower floors.

Rose Garden Parkade

THE ROSE GARDEN PARKADE IS LOCATED AT 6278 NORTH WEST MARINE DRIVE. THE ENTRANCE TO THE PARKADE IS LOCATED ON THE SOUTH SIDE OF MARINE DRIVE UNDERNEATH THE ROSE GARDEN AND ACROSS FROM THE ANTHROPOLOGY AND SOCIOLOGY BUILDING.

Memorial Road Lot

THE MEMORIAL ROAD LOT IS LOCATED IN THE 6300 BLOCK OF MEMORIAL ROAD EAST OF WEST MALL BELOW THE MUSIC BUILDING.

History / Points of Interest

Year Erected: 1972

The Sedgewick Library was opened in 1973. It was constructed underneath Main Mall to preserve the open space at the centre of campus and its unique architecture incorporates the root systems of oak trees on Main Mall. It was named after a member of the Department of English from 1918-1948, Garnett Gladwin Sedgwick. The library won the 1970 Award of Canada for Architecture and the Royal Architecture Institute of Canada Award in 1972. In 1996, the Sedgewick Library was amalgamated with the new Walter C. Koerner Library.
