Unique Location Features / Special Usage- n/a History / Points of InterestYear Erected: 1925 The Chemistry Building was one of the first permanent buildings to be finished on the new Point Grey campus. Construction of the main wing began in 1914, but was halted due to the escalating First World War. In 1922, a student protest and march, known as the Great Trek, garnered enough publicity and support to restart the construction of the building. When it was finished in 1925, it was intended to house only the Department of Chemistry. However, the building was home to the entire Faculty of Science until 1949 when it was renamed the Chemistry Building and first began to serve its original purpose. The South wing was built in 1958 and the North wing was added in 1962. The East wing was constructed in 1963, and in 1989, the final addition was made in the form of the Chemistry-Physics Building. |
