History / Points of Interest
Year Erected: 1958
The Buchanan Building began in 1956 with Block A. Blocks B and C followed in 1958, and in 1960 Blocks D and E were built. The Dean's office addition to Block B was constructed in 1968. The former Dean of Arts and Sciences, Daniel Buchanan, who passed away in 1950, is the namesake for the buildings. The complex is built under the influence of the Modern Movement in architecture, particularly the architecture of Mies van der Rohe.
